Heteronormativity
So, what does that actually mean?
Heteronormativity is the assumption that the “default,” or “correct” sexual orientation is straight (heterosexual) and that all people are cisgender (gender identity aligns with assignment at birth). It assumes that “normal” relationships are monogamous and exist between one cisgender man and one cisgender woman. In a heteronormative society, anything outside of these norms is considered abnormal or inferior.
