The Cass model has six stages of identity development including:

Confusion - "Am I queer or LGBTQ+?"

Comparison- "Is this a phase? Maybe I am LGBTQ+?"

Tolerance - "I am not the only one."

Acceptance - "I will be okay."

Pride - "This is me, and I am proud"

Synthesis - "My LGBTQ identity is one aspect of me."

The Trevor Project has a great coming-out handbook with more information. Click here to check it out!

It is important to know that identity development and coming out is not a linear trajectory.

Progess is sometimes messy and that's okay!

Be SUPER kind to yourself.

It gets better.

Just hang in there and lean on community.
